How Often Should Your Office Be Cleaned?

Most Singapore offices need daily cleaning of toilets, pantries, and high-touch points, with desks, floors, and meeting rooms covered two to five times a week depending on headcount. Offices under about 3,000 sq ft with fewer than 20 staff can usually run on two to three visits a week without standards slipping.

Frequency is the biggest lever on both your cleaning bill and how your office feels, so it is worth getting right rather than guessing. Here is the schedule we recommend, zone by zone.

The zone-by-zone schedule

ZoneRecommended frequencyWhy
ToiletsEvery working dayHygiene, smell, and complaints. This is the zone staff judge hardest.
Pantry and sinksEvery working dayFood waste attracts pests overnight, especially in Singapore’s climate.
High-touch points (door handles, switches, lift buttons)Every working dayThe main route germs travel between staff.
Rubbish and recyclingEvery working dayOvernight food waste is a pest invitation.
Workstations and meeting rooms2 to 5 times a weekScale with headcount and at-desk eating habits.
Floors: vacuum and mop2 to 5 times a weekTraffic dependent. Entrances and walkways first.
Glass doors and partitionsWeeklyFingerprints accumulate slowly but read as neglect.
Under-desk vacuuming, high dusting, ventsMonthlyThe deep tasks that keep a maintained office from slowly greying.
Carpet extraction, floor scrubbing or polishingQuarterly to yearlyRestorative work, scheduled around your operations.

Matching frequency to office size

Under 20 staff or roughly 3,000 sq ft. Two to three visits a week covers most of these offices, provided every visit includes toilets and pantry. Daily is a comfort upgrade, not a necessity.

20 to 60 staff. Daily visits become worth it. With this much traffic, toilets and pantries do not last 48 hours presentably, and skipping days shows.

60 staff and up, or customer-facing premises. Daily cleaning at minimum, and it is worth pricing a part-day or full-day stationed cleaner. Once a space hosts walk-in customers, cleanliness is marketing, not maintenance.

Five signs your current frequency is too low

  1. Toilet complaints reach the office manager more than once a month.
  2. Bins are full before the next scheduled visit.
  3. Staff wipe their own desks before using them.
  4. The pantry has fruit flies, ants, or a smell that survives the weekend.
  5. Visitors see fingerprinted glass at the entrance.

Any two of these mean you should add a visit day before adding anything else. Frequency fixes compounding problems; a deeper clean on the same schedule only resets the clock.

Can you save money by cleaning less often?

Sometimes, but the saving is smaller than expected. Halving visits does not halve the price, because each visit takes longer in a dirtier office. Dropping from daily to three visits a week typically saves 20 to 30 percent, not 40. If budget is the constraint, it is usually smarter to trim scope on the quiet days and keep toilets and pantry daily.
